Rock the Ceremony
Have you guys seen this? Apparantly they just posted it because family members wanted to see it again, but it's become a Youtube hit...they were even on the Today show. Anyway...just something to think about for the next one who gets married, whoever that might be :)

Events
So I realize this is late in the game to suggest, and depending on the weather, getting people outside might not be the easiest thing, but I had a last minute idea for events. While home and preparing for the upcoming events, I was digging around in my trunk and found a Frisbee, and then remembered about Frisbee golf. For those that aren't familiar with this, there's a legitimate version, with driver discs and whatnot (I don't know how to play golf so that term is somewhat meaningless), and a not so legitimate version that Maggie and I have played which is more creative and much more fun. Basically you just take a regular Frisbee and decide on a hole, e.i. a light pole, and you take turns "putting" and lowest score wins. And to modify this further for a backyard, maybe do a miniature gold version and create some kind of obstacles or something, or maybe throw out that you need to use your non-dominant hand or something, just to make it a little harder. I dunno, just a thought. :-)

games suggestions...
LOVE these games: relay races (we could incorporate some flip cup, crazy outfit wearing, etc...), darts, cornhole, rope ball, pongWhat about some sort of concentration game? Like who can build the highest house of cards, a massive game of jenga, kerplunk (hehe, dave owns this!) or something?
I'm just going to toss out there that mariokart (and video games in general) are not my fav. Unless we could get our hands on wii bowling... i would school you all in wii bowling!
those are my thoughts. i'm 'working' as a receptionist today and have been here over 90 mins without answering a single phone call :( ... so i have lots of time to brainstorm!!!

Change of Plans
Assuming we receive no conflict reports, the BOG has officially been moved to March 21!! Let the BOG Committee know ASAP if you have a conflict, but otherwise, just plan on the new date. Remember, that means you've got two weeks to prepare. Get after it.

Country Assignments
Well folks, the BOG Committee decided it was time to step it up and assign a different set of "countries" this time around. As you'll notice, everyone has been assigned a mythical place to represent. You will be responsible for knowing fun "facts" about your country, as well as representing traditional attire. Keep in mind, creativity is key, and since these places are myths, feel free to push the limits. Suggestions include flags, anthems, costumes, accents, etc. Please see the list below for your assignment.
Jennie - Never Neverland
Maggie - Oz
Dave - The Matrix
Katie - Lost (the island that is)
Chris - Camelot
Alex - Death Star (from Star Wars of course)
Ashley - Rivendell
Kayla - Whoville (gotta give Dr. Seuss some love)
Stina - Narnia
Miguel - Hogwarts
You have three weeks to prepare. That should be plenty of time. And remember, there are awards at stake here, so bring your A-game.

Date Selected
The BOG are officially scheduled for March 28, 2009!!! The Opening Ceremonies will commence at approximately 4:30 ET, followed some ourdoor gaming, dinner around 6:00 and the rest of the games throughout the evening.
This gives everyone 3 weeks to train, prepare country paraphernalia, and generally get hyped for this historic event. The country assignments will follow...

Some things to keep in mind
Okay, I for one am so excited about the Spring BOG. I'm going to start posting things to remember for the BOG, and will update here as the schedule progresses. A couple general reminders:
Awards: If you won one last time, don't forget to bring it back for the games! We decided at the last BOG that these awards would be used over and over again. Maybe we can come up with some kind of system of signing your name and date on the award before it gets passed on (sort of like a ghetto plaque) or something... Anyway, Ashley will probably put up an update of the potential awards to win as time gets closer and events get solidified (unless she wants them to be a surprise...either option I support)!
Drinks: Everyone bring your own. Chris and I will provide a bucket again for everyone (unless people want to change to something else, but I will veto any suggestion involving blending or continuous mixing to forewarn you). This worked very well last time, no money exchange was involved, everyone were generous, and everyone was happy because they all had what they wanted. So this is how we'll continue!
Pillows: We are hoping for an even bigger turnout this round than last, so I am going to throw out the suggestion that everyone should bring their own pillow. I think we will have enough blankets/sheets and spaces to sleep (beds and couches hopefully!) but again, as things firm up, I'll update you on what to bring.
I love everyone's enthusiasm, keep it up!! :)

Banana Pass
I would also like to submit the Banana Pass Relay as an option for events.

Ladder Golf/Rope Ball
I'm taking the liberty of posting the first game suggestion as described by Dave. Check out the rules, etc. here and see what you think!

Let the Games Commence!
Greetings Olympians!
Welcome back for the second round of Basement Olympic Games. The Basment Olympics Committee extends its warmest regards and hopes that your off-season training will serve you well in the upcoming events.
As you'll see from our esteemed president's initial email, we are looking at two potential dates for the next games: March 21st or March 28. Please select your preferred date in the poll to the right. Feel free to leave comments as well.
As soon as I can figure this out, I will give everyone permission to post on the blog, so we can all share our thoughts on planning the next BOG. That's all for now; let the games commence :)
